PlayStation crowned Best Gaming Platform at TrustedReviews awards

TrustedReviews Awards Gaming Platform winner

PlayStation has been gifted the TrustedReviews Award for the Best Gaming Platform of 2014.

It was a tough choice for the pick of the Best Gaming Platform this year, thanks to innovations from the majority of game platforms, including the likes of iOS and Android.

But in the TrustedReviews Awards reader vote there were three key contenders for the title: Steam, Xbox and PlayStation.

It was a very close race, but PlayStation pulled ahead to claim the TrustedReviews Award 2014.

“Sony has really focused on offering gamers some unique PlayStation features this year. It’s not just confined to the traditional gaming platforms like the PS4 and PS Vita either,” explained TrustedReviews Games Editor, Samantha Loveridge. “There’s also been great improvements made to existing services like PlayStation Plus, which gave PlayStation the edge for Best Gaming Platform this year.”

Since the launch of the PS4 at the end of last year, Sony and PlayStation have introduced a number of different features that are exclusive to the PlayStation platform.

Remote Play was a feature originally introduced with the PS3 and the PS Vita, but has since been enhanced with the PS4. However, this year, the feature has been implemented on the Sony Xperia Z3, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact along with the Z2 family.

The PS4 Share Play feature arrived with the PS4 update 2.0 and lets you share your games with other PS4 users, even if they don’t own the same titles.

Of course, PlayStation Plus has always been a strong addition to the PlayStation platform. Now, you get two games a month for each console – PS4, PS3 and PS Vita – making sure all bases are covered.

Then there came PS TV. Originally introduced as a Japanese exclusive, the little black box finally made it to the UK this month. It might not be for everyone, but it does offer Remote Play, plays (select) PS Vita games and some of the old classics too.
