PlayStation app hits iOS and Android ahead of PS4 release

iOS and Android users awaiting the upcoming PS4 now have a new PlayStation app that aims to improve their experience with the upcoming console.

The app, which turns your mobile device into an “onscreen keyboard”, is to allow users to “always be ready to game” said a Sony spokesperson. They added that the application will also keep gamers connected to “gaming friends” and the “games they love to play.”

Available as a free download now from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, the new PlayStation app enables users to push purchases from the PlayStation store on their phones to their home consoles, meaning their favourite games are ready to use after a hard day’s work.

Both the PS4 manual and system guide will be available through the app too, ending the woes associated with lost paper booklets. On top of this, the new PlayStation app will let gamers chat, compare purchases and send and receive invites from their online friends.

With Sony having revealed that more than 1 million consoles were reserved within just weeks PS4 pre-orders opening, the demand for the Xbox One rival has already caught UK retailers off guard. It is expected that next-gen console could be in short supply up to four months after launch.

With a PS4 release date scheduled for a November 29 in the UK, and the console set to sport a price tag of £349, a full £80 cheaper than the Xbox One, news of this mobile app is sure to whet gamers’ appetites even further.

The app, compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, requires iOS 6.0 or later and is optimized for the 4-inch iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S screen size. It requires both a Sony Entertainment Network account and a PS4 system in order to be fully utilised.
