Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time

EA Games has revealed that the recently launched Plants vs Zombies 2 app has been downloaded more than 16 million times in its opening week.

Launching to the top of the Apple App Store in 130 countries across the world, Plants vs Zombies has been called the “biggest mobile game launch in EA Games history” by PopCap during the EA Games GAmescom presentation.

Since it was launched last week on August 15, Plants vs Zombies 2 has been downloaded over 16 million times on iOS devices like the iPad mini and iPhone 5.

Players have already logged more than 25 million hours of gameplay on Plants vs Zombies 2.

PopCap has also confirmed that its development team is beavering away at the first major update for Plants vs Zombies 2, which will bring a new world to the game – “Far Future”.

“Your adventure is only just beginning,” said PopCap. “We’ll be adding new worlds and content all the time.”

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare
PopCap and EA Games also took the time to talk about Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare, the first of its titles coming to next-generation consoles.

Launching in Spring 2014 for the Xbox One and Xbox 360, Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare is a “refreshing third person action experience backed by the Frostbite 3 engine.”

PvZ fans will be able to play both as a plant and a zombie in the upcoming Xbox One game, with PopCap showing off some of the zombie classes in the new Gamescom trailer.

Gamers will also be able to take part in Boss Mode, available exclusively via the Xbox One Kinect and Xbox SmartGlass app. Players will take control of Dr. Zomboss or Crazy Dave to reign down havoc in Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare in a top-down view mode more akin to the app based games.
