Pinterest, arguably the world's foremost social network for recipe ideas, knitting patterns and other Esty-esque intrigue, has finally come to the iOS and Android in app form.

Pinterest is among the newer social networks, but gained prominence fairly swiftly after its closed Beta in March 2010. Its pin-board style interface seems the perfect fit for a flick-friendly tablet, so it almost seems a shame it has taken the network this long to get down with tablet users.

Both the universal iPad/iPhone edition and Android version are available now, from iTunes and Google Play respectively, and both are free downloads.

Pinterest says that the various versions have been carefully tailored for the devices' screen sizes, on its official blog. The iPad version displays four rows of pinned topics in landscape, where the iPhone sticks to two in its usual portrait orientation. Android? Well that version plays things a bit fast and loose, automatically reorganising the screen's contents depending on your gadget's resolution.

Also noted on the blog, Android users have apparently been the most vocal app-hungry crowd of the lot, begging for the thing any time Pinterest has made an official announcement about… anything.

By July 2012, Pinterest had reportedly had swelled to 23 million users. It's run by a private company, and was valued at $1.5billion back in May. Not bad for a venture being run out of an apartment until last year…
