I'm too stylish for your living room...
When Philips isn’t making shavers, toothbrushes and random sundries it somehow finds time to make a rather cracking line of televisual kit. There’s another example…
The HTS9800W is one of those rare moments when I realise I need to renovate my entire living room if I want to buy it. Winner of the swanky 2006 CES Innovation Award, this HD compatible home cinema system has been styled within an inch of its life.
Comprising the main DVD unit (centre shot), three front speakers, three wireless rear speakers and a sub-woofer (that’s right a TV is separate – sorry dudes) the 800W package is equipped with Dolby Digital EX, DTS and Dolby Pro Logic II decoders and a low frequency level output measuring just 30Hz.
The DVD player is equipped with HDMI connectivity and inbuilt 720p/1080i upscaling technology so your new HD Ready set won’t go to waste. DVD, DVD+/-R/RW, (S)VCD, SACD, MPEG4, CD-R/RW, MP3, WMA/MP3-CD and JPEG CDs are all supported and RGB Scart output and digital coaxial inputs enable you to tack on audio devices like CD or MP3 players.
Much like Motorola’s original RAZR or Nokia’s (hideously overrated) 8800 the HTS9800W doesn’t come cheap at a massive £700 (including VAT, mercifully). If you’ve got the budget to add this to your TV upgrades I suggest you do. For the rest of us mere mortals I’d recommended first turning attention to your living room. A few licks of paint and some wood flooring would be a good start…
