Phase One has taken the wraps off a true 100-megapixel medium format camera.
The Phase One XF 100MP is a full frame medium format camera with one massive selling point. It can capture true 100-megapixel images.
Normally, capturing such massive photos requires a workaround, such as capturing multiple images and stitching them together. But the Phase One XF 100MP captures its shots perfectly naturally.
This means that it packs a 100-megapixel CMOS sensor, which was co-developed with Sony.
This new camera will be of particular interest to film fanatics. It's the first CMOS sensor to be able to produce 16-bit colour depth, necessitating the creation of a new custom file format.
To help with viewing these massive images, the Phase One XF 100MP comes with a large high resolution touchscreen display (we couldn't spot the exact specs) that can offer a 100 percent view with a simple double tap.

Elsewhere, the Phase One XF 100MP is capable of capturing clean images from ISO 50 right up to ISO 12800.
Naturally, such high-end camera tech comes at a price - and what a price it is. The Phase One XF 100MP is shipping now for $48,990 (via Sony Alpha Rumors), which translates to around £33,000. Ouch.
