PES 2014 not coming to Xbox One or PS4, concerns over slow next-gen uptake

Konami has confirmed that PES 2014 won’t be coming to the Xbox One or PS4 over concerns that the next-generation console uptake will be slow.

PES 2014 is only shipping for the current Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles, as Konami isn’t sure how fast consumers will migrate to the next-generation offerings.

Manorito Hosoda, a marketing executive at Konami, said the developer is working on making PES 2014 the best it can be for Xbox 360 and PS3 before moving on to the Xbox One and PS4.

“We’re not sure how quickly the uptake of the next generation will go. The fan base is with the current gen, and before moving on we want to make a good game with the new engine", said Hosoda

Built on the new Fox engine, Konami has already promised that the new PES 2014 will offer next-gen equivalent visuals.

Konami’s PES games already have an installed user base of more than 100 million, whereas the next-generation console launch titles will have a significantly smaller audience.

The PES series is currently outsold by FIFA around 20:1 in the UK, so Konami is understandably worried about losing any of its established fan base.

“We’re kind of damned if we do and damned if we don’t,” said Jon Murphy, another representative for PES 2014, on the next-gen launch dilemma. “I think we’re in a slightly different position [to FIFA], because we’ve been criticised in the past about producing a ‘next-gen’ version when we weren’t ready.”

The PES developer faced great difficulties adapting its PS2 engine for the PS3 when the current console was launched. This meant that early PES games on the PS3 were flawed and received great criticism.

“We can’t get away with producing a version that isn’t absolutely shit-hot on next generation. I think we want to be confident when we do bring something out and not in a position where people are criticising us for producing a sloppy, second rate port.”

A precise PES 2014 release date has yet to be outlined, but it will be landing on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 before the end of year.

“We’re going to produce something that puts us back to where we should be in terms of quality.”

Konami for PES is doing the right thing and instead is focusing on new engine to surprise its competitor. that what i would do rather then being too greedy and release a ported version from an old engine, that would be a rip-Off, sooner or later others has to follow, and remake their games to fit the next-gen console, so for now staff were told to redesign the game and put more time and effort, which means the longer the better. Hopefully we will see a good result and worth the waiting sebas or who ever is working on it.
some time i blame sony it self by not allowing other games to be playable on their new gen console ( Ps4 ) why not allow us to play this fantastic game on our new machines, not only this but many games are still on ps3 sad to have ps4 and have nothing to play apart from few games you not like, lol.
i will wait konami and please do not disappoint me.lol

We are done with ps3, we have been waiting for ps4 for a long time. Am a big fan of pes from the first day and I can not believe that I have to play another football game on my ps4. Just be yourself konami and offer us the same game you offered from day one excluding pes2012. Don not copy from any other game. We are just waiting for a normal game without any complications with your changes on graphics and sound. But it is really damned if you don not issue your game with ps4. Just be konami

I am also a big fan of pes. From my point of view and as an owner of 2 play station cafe stores and spending more than 2 hours daily on oes 2013 I can assure that my opinion can make sense. I did realized that most of teenagers turn to pes because at the end of the day it's a game and we want entertainment. It's just we loved to score goals and have fun without many complications. I think that pes2013 was your signature game it takes us back to konami gold days. Just start with ps4 with a version close to pes2013 and everyone will start playing football on ps4 with your game. Do not complicate our game. We loved konami because it was easy and close to a game rather than playing a hundred passes to score a goal by chance. Launch your game without complications and the new generation will play it konami style.

Unfortunately PES 2014 is crap anyway. I've played thousands of matches on all PES versions since PES 5 and this is the first time I've gone back to the previous version because the latest one is so bad. Will try it again in a few months to see if they've patched it up to play properly, but I'll probably be disappointed.
