Top offerings covering budget, fashion and DSLR
We often get a slew of releases from companies overloading us with new models – Canon being the biggest offender – when all we really want is a high quality addition to address each market sector. Step forward and take a bow Pentax.
Salivating the connoisseur is the K10D, Pentax’s new flagship DSLR. It crams a massive 10.2 megapixels into a relatively compact frame (142 x 101 x 70mm and 793g with battery) and combines the latest revision of the company’s Shake Reduction (SR) technology with a newly designed imagine engine.
There’s a 210k pixel 2.5in LCD, SD and SDHC memory card compatibility, up 1600 ISO
and over 32 custom functions to personalise camera operations. A dust removal system keeps the CCD surface clean, RAW and jpeg images can be recorded simultaneously and the K10D is even water resistant though Pentax doesn’t specify to exactly what extent.
Being more of a photographic light weight, the more style orientated T20 is what does it for me however. The seven megapixel slim line (just 19.5mm thick) model has a beautiful 3in touch screen LCD which offers simplified navigation and in-camera photo and movie editing.
There are 12 shooting modes and the usual 3x optical zoom and VGA video while 12MB of internal memory acts as a buffer should you run out of space on either the SD and SDHC supported memory cards.
Finally the E20 caters for the buyer on a budget and is a surprisingly well featured device. It touts a healthy six megapixels, 3x optical zoom, 2.4in LCD and is powered by AA batteries. A full auto mode is available for beginners while a simple dial allows users to switch between shooting modes.
All three models will see the light of day in October and while the K10D isn’t priced up yet the T20 will come with an RRP of £249.99 while the E20 costs a meagre £119.99 which is rather a bargain if you ask me. In all, how refreshingly sensible.
