Pentax WG-3 outdoor compact camera announced

Pentax has unveiled its Pentax WG-3 outdoor compact camera, designed to be expertly dependable in extreme outdoor conditions.

Coming complete with a 16-megapixel image sensor and 4x optical lens, the Pentax WG-3 is capable of achieving bright and clear images even when taken underwater.

Pentax has revealed the Pentax WG-3 GPS version too. Providing the same specs as the Pentax WG-3, the GPS version features and additional advanced GPS function to create travel logs via position data recorded by captured images, as well as pressure, altitude and depth gauges, a digital compress and a unique wireless recharging system.

Also announced was the entry-level Pentax WG-10 outdoor compact. Offering specs-a-plenty, the Pentax WG-10 is waterproof to 10m, shock resistant from falls up to 1.5m in height and can survive in the cold temperatures as low as -10oC. Also featuring 14-megapixels, HD video recording, a 2.7-inch screen and 5x optical zoom lens with 28mm wide coverage, the Pentax WG-10 is great entry-level compact camera for outdoor adventures.

Pentax WG-3 Features
Designed specifically to be able to weather extreme outdoor conditions, the rugged Pentax WG-3 offers the best waterproof performance by Pentax cameras to date, with the camera surviving depths down to 14m. The resilient shock resistant outer casing can withstand a fall of 2m and temperatures down to a rather chilly -10oC.

The Pentax WG-3 is equipped with a 16-megapixel CMOS back-lit image sensor capable of top sensitivities of ISO 6400. The 25mm wide angle lens offers 4x optical zoom with a maximum aperture of F2.0 capturing bright images even in underwater conditions.

Users can utilise the six LED Macro lights situated around the outside of the lens to achieve more precise subject illumination for macro shots, especially when the Digital Microscope feature is turned on.

Even if the user is testing their photography abilities on a white water rafting trip, the dual shake reduction system inside the Pentax WG-3 should deliver crisp, clear images even in low lighting conditions. The Pentax WG-3 is also capable of recording full HD movies in 1920 x 1080 pixel resolutions – useful if users fancy recording their friend’s first bungee jump.

The high resolution, widescreen 3-inch LCD screen on the Pentax WG-3 can be viewed from 170 degrees in any direction, and is coated with the Pentax original AR coating to minimize glare and reflections for photographing in any weather conditions.

Pentax WG-3 Release Date and Price
Pentax has announced the Pentax WG-3 release date as sometime in March, available in orange and black, with a Pentax WG-3 price tag of £279.99.

The Pentax WG-3 GPS version will cost quite a bit more at £329.99, available in purple and green, also released in March.

The entry-level Pentax WG-10 comes priced at a very reasonable £179.99, with red and black colour scheme options. Like the previous models, outdoor adventurers can expect to see the Pentax WG-10 in stores from March.
