Pebble Time Steel will begin shipping to Kickstarter backers this month

Smartwatch pioneer Pebble has announced those who backed the Pebble Time Steel smartwatch via Kickstarter will begin receiving the wearable by the end of this month.

The firm has already posted the majority of Pebble Time smartwatches to 55,000 of the firm’s 57,000 pre-order customers, but the fancier version is only just entering production.

In an update to on the firm’s Kickstarter page, Pebble said everyone who backed the project will receive the tracking numbers for the Steel version by the end of August at the latest.

That’s a little off from the original July estimates, but a relatively short delay by Kickstarter project standards.

The post (via The Next Web) read: “Shipments to the first Pebble Time Steel backers will begin the last week of July. Backers at the end of the Time Steel line should receive tracking numbers by the end of August.

“Pebble Time Steel rewards ship as soon as our distribution centers around the world receive watches from the factory and process them for final delivery.”

The basic version of the colour e-paper watch has been rolling out to backers since the end of May.

TrustedReviews recently conducted an in-depth review of the latest generation smartwatch, but found it wanting in a number of areas.

Our reviewer, who awarded the device a modest 6/10 score, said it felt cheap, had ‘dodgy buttons,’ offered limited features for iOS users and had childish animations.

However, the watch did earn praise for its impressive battery life, always-on clock and waterproof to 30m functionality.
