nVidia comes to the rescue of our wallets.
It is not often these days that PC gamers get to feel particularly smug compared to their console favouring rivals (playing Crysis excepted) but they do today…
Speaking out on his blog, IAmFourZeroTwo, Infinity Ward developer Robert Bowling has revealed that nVidia has kindly stepped in to sponsor its impending Call of Duty 4 ‘Variety Map Pack’ and consequently it will be delivered free to PC gamers when it launches on Thursday. By contrast Xbox 360 owners were forced to pay up (when they got it earlier *cough*)
“Nvidia is making it possible for PC players to download the map pack for Free on the PC thanks to their sponsorship,” said Bowling. “In addition, expect to see quite a few promotions popping up leading up to the launch of the map packs on the 5th and beyond. I know NVIDIA has a lot of great things planned for PC users in addition to maps becoming available.”
The Variety Map Pack includes four new maps for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare multiplayer including ‘Broadcast’, ‘Chinatown’, ‘Killhouse’ and ‘Creek’. On top of the pack PC gamers will also soon be getting Patch v1.6 for the game which adds support for the new maps, as well as a fix for a server crash and some tweaks and bug fixes. Full 1.6 release notes will hit next week.
So suck on that console owners with your fractional outlay costs, guaranteed frame rates and long product lifecycles. Bet you feel stupid now…
