PayPal for iOS now works with Touch ID

by

PayPal

The PayPal app for the iPhone has now been updated to support Apple’s Touch ID biometric scanner.

This means that iOS users will now be able to log into the online payment service using their fingerprints.

It’s an added level of security for those who aren’t content with the protection of a password alone.

The update is now available to download on the iPhone, and will work with any handset that offers Touch ID functionality.

That’s just the iPhone 5S, the iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus for now. But we’re expecting the iPhone 6S to continue the trend later this year.

Apple unveiled its Touch ID API last year, and PayPal was one of the first companies to announce it would take advantage of the feature.

Initially, however, Apple Pay was the only payment platform that worked with Touch ID.

This raised concerns over a lack of openness on the part of Apple, but this has since been rectified.

The availability of Touch ID to developers now means iOS is a much more attractive platform, and the added security on offer with third-party apps has been significantly enhanced.
