Payday 2 has topped the UK All Format Gaming Chart in its debut week on sale, ending Minecraft’s three week run in pole position.
Giving publisher 505 Games its first chart topping release in over a year, Payday 2 has pushed Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition down to second in the weekly sales chart. The aging Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has seen a dramatic 60 per cent week-on-week sales increase to push it from seventh to third.
Pushed out of the podium positions once again, mainstay of the UK Gaming Chart FIFA 13 has dropped two places to fourth for the week ending August 17 while Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Leaf has held firm in fifth position. This year’s eagerly awaited FIFA 14 release is set to launch late next month, a move which will seemingly spell the end to its predecessors year within the top ten.
With no further new entries beyond Payday 2 making the week’s top ten, the calm before the storm on the gaming scene continues. Later this year a mass of AAA titles are all set to hit retailers within a matter of weeks of each other, kicking off on September 17 with GTA 5.
Ahead of the next Grand Theft Auto release next month, Rockstar has seen GTA 4 edge back into the gaming chart top ten, up three places week-on-week from thirteenth.
Completing the week’s lead positions are a range of familiar titles with The Last of Us retaining sixth spot ahead of The Smurfs 2 which is down in seventh from last week’s bronze medal finish. With LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes rounding out the week in eighth, Tomb Raider has just managed to hold on to its ninth position despite a 10 per cent drop in week-on-week sales.
