Pandora app brings the party playlist to Google Glass

Wearers of the Google Glass headset in the United States can now stream music directly to their device thanks to the launch of a Pandora app.

The new music streaming tool gives Glass owners the opportunity to curate personalised playlists based on artists, songs or genres, without having to reach for the app on their companion mobile device.

The Pandora app makes it easy to select existing playlists and start new ones through “OK Glass” voice commands.

Meanwhile, giving the thumbs up or thumbs down to songs (Pandora’s means of personalising your playlist) and playing, pausing and skipping tracks can be controlled through the headset’s touchpad.

Users can listen to the app via the built-in speaker and bone conduction tech, which doesn’t require headphones, or the single earbud included in the Glass Explorer Kit. It’s also possible to buy a dedicated double earbud accessory, which can be plugged into the device’s MicroUSB slot.

Interestingly, according to the company blog, the birth of the app came during one of Pandora’s bi-annual hackathon days where employees are able to share ideas and work on their own projects. The Pandora app for Google Glass is one of the few that eventually graduates from these sorts of affairs and makes it all the way to release.

For those Explorers rocking a Glass headset can be installed via My Glass. UK-based wearers are out of luck as Pandora is still to launch on that side of the pond.
