Panasonic unveils new cameras and lens for travel photographers

With CES 2016 underway, the overwhelming stream of new products and tech innovations has well and truly begun.

Today, Panasonic got in on the action by unveiling two new Lumix cameras and a Lumix G 100-400mm lens, aimed at making life easier for travel and wildlife photographers.

The company first introduced the Lumix DMC-TZ80, a new addition to its travel zoom range that combines 30x zoom with 4K performance.

The camera is certainly light, weighing only 300g, and incorporates a 18M high-sensitivity MOS sensor, allowing for highly detailed shots.

It also boasts a Leica lens with 30x zoom (24-720mm). I can shoot 4K video in 3,840 x 2,160 at 25fps in MP4, as well as high-resolution Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 50p videos in AVCHD.

Alongside the DMC-TZ80, Panasonic revealed the Lumix DMC-TZ100 – a premium compact travel camera with a 10x zoom.

The large 1-inch MOS sensor combines with Panasonic’s Venus engine, which should make shooting at high ISO easier.

Alongside, the DMC-TZ100 can also shoot video in 4K 3,840 x 2,160 at 25fps in MP4 and is capable of high-resolution Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 50p videos in AVCHD.

Panasonic is promoting its Post Focus feature, a new addition to the Lumix TZ range, which allows you to choose the focal point of any picture after it’s taken.

Both the new models have the Post Focus feature.

The final new product is a telephoto lens for the Lumix G range of Micro Four Thirds System cameras.

The Lumix G 100-400mm Telephoto-Zoom, Leica DG Vario-Elmar lens is aimed at making shooting birds and other wildlife easier.

With a 200-800mm focal length (35mm equivalent) and 0.5x magnification capability, the lens should provide highly detailed shots from a distance, and it’s smaller and lighter than many other Telephoto-Zoom lenses on the market.
