Panasonic DMC-CM1 to be given limited UK release

The Panasonic DMC-CM1 camera-centric smartphone is to be given a limited UK release, the company has confirmed.

Having been unveiled back in September, the CM1 was not originally intended to be brought to British shores but instead headed to Germany and France.

Now, however, Panasonic has revealed strong demand for the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom rival has forced it to bring a limited number of CM1 devices to the UK. The restricted stock will be available from December 1.

Due to high demand, Panasonic is pleased to announce that it will be launching a limited number of the much anticipated DMC-CM1, premium compact camera with smartphone technology, in the UK,” an official Panasonic spokesperson announced.

Despite its call making credentials, Panasonic is tipping the DMC-CM1 as more of a compact camera with smartphone capabilities than a handset with an impressive snapper bolted on the back.

A 20-megapixel camera enhanced by a 28mm f/2.8 Leica DC lens, the DMC-CM1 is capable of capturing 4K video and features the same 1-inch sensor found within the company’s flagship bridge camera, the Panasonic DMC-FZ1000.

Despite confirming the DMC-CM1 will be offered in the UK, with select Jessops, John Lewis and Panasonic stores, pricing has yet to be announced.

The first Panasonic DMC-CM1 units will be made available to consumers from next Monday. The limited stock of the Android-based handset will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
