It has been some time coming, but the quality of apps on Google’s highly promising Android platform should be on the rise following the launch of paid applications.
In a surprisingly taught statement, Google Mobile Platform Program Manager Eric Chu proclaimed late last week:
“I’m pleased to announce that Android Market is now accepting priced applications from US and UK developers. Developers from these countries can go to the publisher website at http://market.android.com/publish to upload their application(s) along with end user pricing for the apps. Initially, priced applications will be available to end users in the US starting mid next week. We will add end user support for additional countries in the coming months.”
The first of these will be Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, France and Spain which will see priced applications later this quarter with more lined up for the end of March. Unsurprisingly, Google Checkout has been chosen as the payment system for these applications which should cause a major upturn in the so far meandering service’s life.
”’In related news”’ Google also confirmed the poor, often-neglected Aussies will finally be able to download ”free applications” from today with developers now able to submit their apps via http://market.android.com/publish. I did say they were neglected…
