Over 340 million smartphones shipped globally last quarter
We all know that smartphones are big business, but exactly how large is the industry?
New figures reveal the number of smartphones shipped last quarter, and it’s an impressive figure.
In Q3 2015, a total 342.5 million smartphone units were shipped by global vendors.
That’s according to the latest statistics from mobile analyst firm Juniper Research.
The report reveals that the shipment value represents a slowed year-on-year growth of 8.4%.
But how did the industry’s biggest players fare last quarter?
Much of that growth came courtesy of China, with $12 billion revenue coming from the Far East region.
Samsung also had a respectable quarter, reporting a 37% year-on-year increase in profitability.
And Xiaomi, China’s hugely successful mobile giant, managed to ship an estimated 18.4 million smartphones.

Unfortunately, the company struggled both in China and internationally last quarter, which means Huawei ranked as the best performing vendor.
The latter shipped 27.4 million devices, which was a 63% rise year-on-year.
