Ouya has revealed it has plans to extend its software platform to other devices in the future.

The Ouya Everywhere initiative could bring the Ouya gaming platform to other set-top boxes and smart TVs as well.

According to Julie Uhrman, CEO and founder of Ouya, the company’s mission has always been to lure mobile gamers back to their living rooms.

The Ouya Android gaming console was launched in last year and the company hasn’t revealed any sales figures for its £99.99 little box.

However, you won’t need to actually buy an Ouya console in the future it seems, as the company’s Everywhere initiative will broaden its software availability.

“It could be another set-top box. It could be the TV itself. There’s a number of different ways that games can be played on the television, and we’re actively exploring all of them,” explained Uhrman.

Of course, the company is keeping quiet on how exactly Ouya Everywhere will function, but Uhrman gave a brief outline during an interview with Slashdot.

“Right now, our growth is limited by how quickly we can make a box and put it into market. We know that our demand far exceeds our ability to do that.”

The company said it has already confirmed one deal for Ouya Everywhere, which will be announced within the next couple of weeks.

“We started having conversations at CES and we’re really surprised by the pickup the idea had, so we’re jumping in with both feet and it’s a core focus for us.”

Ouya will still release a hardware console every year and the next version will at least have a “higher performing chipset”.

“We have done a lot of work on our controller and we feel like there is even more work to do. Those are the two big things we’re focused on.”

Ouya Everywhere is about “bringing our software to other people’s devices by embedding it in those devices. We’ve always wanted to be an open platform. It started with a hardware product for us. We will always have an Ouya reference design… but in addition to just being a reference device we believe our ecosystem can live on other devices.”
