Microsoft has moved its Outlook for Android app out of preview, bringing parity with the iOS version.
The company’s new advanced email app was launched back at the end of January on iOS and Android, but only the former was a full, complete version.
Outlook for Android was listed as being in preview while Microsoft nailed down all of the hardware variables. Microsoft admits that “the iOS version of Outlook was ahead of the Android version in terms of features and performance.”
Now, three months on, Microsoft has announced that the Android version has shed its preview label.
It might have taken a while, but Microsoft hasn’t been idle in those intervening weeks. In fact, the Outlook for Android preview app has been updated 17 times, which represents more than one update per week.
“A big part of that work has been improving the performance and stability of the app along with work on localisation, accessibility and other fit and finish pieces,” says Microsoft on its Office Blog. “The other part of this work was about delivering features to add new value, match the iOS version and respond to your feedback.”
The new-look Outlook app has been winning praise from all quarters. That’s because it’s basically the heralded Acompli app, which Microsoft purchased back in December. The company promptly reskinned the app with a modern Microsoft livery and called it Outlook.

Outlook provides handy features like an integrated calendar and swipe-based email management tools allowing you to prioritise and postpone messages. It’s also possible to attach files from a variety of cloud storage sources such as OneDrive and Dropbox.
The app also supports a wide range of account types, including Office 365, Exchange, Outlook.com, iCloud, Gmail and Yahoo! Mail.
