The game that kicked off a multi-million pound franchise, Angry Birds, has been made available for free on iOS and Android.
It's unclear whether this is a permanent move or not, as there has been no accompanying press release to announce the move. However, it is worth noting that the free demo version of Angry Birds, which contained a few trial levels of the game, has been removed entirely.
The original Angry Birds was released onto the iOS App Store on December 2009. In the four years since the franchise has spawned four more Angry Birds games (five if you include the Bad Piggies spin-off) which has accumulated more than a billion downloads.
Of these semi-sequels, the most notable has to be the very latest - a tie-in with the ever-popular Star Wars franchise, Angry Birds Star Wars.
Developer Rovio has also expanded the series to Facebook, games consoles and smart TV sets. Then there is the Angry Birds spin-off merchandise, which includes board games, fluffy toys, clothing and more. There's also an animated series and even an Angry Birds theme park over in Rovio's native Finland.
If you're one of the few people who never jumped aboard the unstoppable Angry Birds train, or just joined the franchise late, then you can now see how it all started at no cost on iOS and Android.
