What is Ori and the Will of the Wisps?

Acting as a direct sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest, Will of the Wisps once again has you playing as Ori, a white guardian spirit responsible for watching over the forest alongside Sein, the light and eyes of the sacred Spirit Tree.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps release date – when is it coming out?

First announced during Microsoft’s E3 2017 press conference, Ori and the Will of the Wisps didn’t receive a release date until a whole year later during Microsoft’s 2018 conference.

Even then, the release date given was a frustratingly vague ‘2019’. Here’s to hoping the development time is being well-used.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps story – what’s it about?

Once again beginning in the mystical forest of Nibel, we follow Ori as they try and travel beyond the confines of the woods while moving closer and closer to their true destiny.

If it’s anything like Ori and the Blind Forest, you best prepare yourself to shed a tear or two.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps gameplay – How does it play?

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a Metroidvania experience that also takes inspiration from the likes of Mario and Rayman. Environments are vast, providing the player with multiple avenues of exploration, although you’ll need certain abilities to reach specific areas without any trouble.

New abilities will be obtained as you progress, granting Ori access to areas previously impossible to reach. Skills can also be upgraded, providing you with an advantage in battle and manoeuvrability while opening up the game world as a consequence.

The original game was very challenging at times, and hopefully, that is retained in Will of the Wisps. At the same time, a difficulty setting that allows new players to enjoy the story without too much resistance would also be welcome.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps trailer – how does it look?

At E3 2018 we were treated to a brand new gameplay trailer for the game, which shows off much of the game georgious visuals that were introduced with the debut trailer shown during the 2017 conference.
