While Near Field Communication (NFC) is quickly becoming a standard feature in new phones, it has yet to really take off in real world applications - but it is surely only a matter of time that it becomes a part of everyday life. And there is no better way to increase its use than by offering people free food and drink, which is exactly what Orange has done.
Teaming up with the EAT chain of restaurants, Orange is offering customers with one of its range of Quick Tap phones the chance of grabbing a free ‘treat’ everyday. These free treats will include baguettes, small coffees and porridge as well as being able to upgrade from a small to a large coffee for free or getting free mash and gravy when you buy a pie.
Quick Tap Treats works using NFC tags which will feature on specially designed posters in EAT stores nationwide. Tapping your Quick Tap phone on the poster brings up a game to play and if you win you will be able to immediately redeem treats in-store. Be warned though this offer does not extend to airports and concession stands.
Currently Orange offers eight handsets which are eligible: Samsung Tocco Lite, Samsung Wave 578, Samsung Galaxy S2, Blackberry Bold 9900, Blackberry Curve 9360, Blackberry Bold 9790, Blackberry Curve 9380, Acer Liquid Express.
