How to make something impossibly desireable even more so...
IT products get upgrades all the time, no big deal; but when it is our favourite little micro PC that is on the receiving end of more juice, we get a little bit excited.
Called the 01+ (important “+” that), the new machine comes with 512MB RAM, a 30GB HDD, USB2.0, a 1GHz processor, internal speaker and 5in 800 x 480 widescreen LCD display. This will obviously help the little bundle of fun zoom along much faster than before, while the improved connectivity should make the all round experience that much more user friendly. Not that there was too much wrong with the old one.
Any downers? Well, it took a while for the 01 to reach these shores so we hope we’re not in for a similar wait this time with the 01+. Given that OQO now has an established trading link with eXpansys, it shouldn’t be. The only question that remains now is price. The original OQO came in at around the £1,600 mark (incl. VAT), which isn’t too bad considering its unparalleled portability. Four months down the line I’d be rather surprised if the 01+ didn’t debut with a similar sticker price.
Now we just cross our fingers and start praying really hard for the 02 in ’06, if you follow me…?!
