Oppo has officially announced two new smartphones at a launch event in China today, following endless leaks of the handsets.
The tech giant showed off the flagship duo, revealing the Oppo R7, and its sized-up R7 Plus sibling.
The phones had been heavily rumoured prior to the announcement, so the reveal didn’t bring much in the way of surprises.
The R7 is the smaller handset, and packs a 5-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD 1080p resolution.
The R7 Plus, meanwhile, firmly treads phablet territory with a 6-inch display, also with a 1080p resolution.
Both handsets make use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 mobile chip, which runs a 64-bit octa-core processor.
Also inside both devices is a 3GB RAM module, 16GB of built-in storage (32GB on the Plus), and a microSD slot.

The R7 Plus boasts a 13-megapixel camera, which comes with a promise from Oppo of 78 per cent less noise and 32 per cent increased light sensitivity compared to conventional smartphone camera designs. There’s also phase detection AF and a single-LED flash.
Battery life comes courtesy of a 2,320mAh cell in the Oppo R7, while the R7 Plus uses a gigantic 4,100mAh battery.
The Plus also touts a fingerprint sensor, a feature which didn’t make it to the smaller R7.
Both phones use Oppo’s Android-based ColorOS v2.1, and offer Cat.4 LTE carrier aggregation for theoretical 150Mbps download speeds. They’re dual-SIM, too.
The Oppo R7 prices up at CNY 2,499 (£260), while its beefier cousin costs CNY 2,999 (£310).
The phones will be available to buy in China starting tomorrow, with a wider global launch pencilled in for mid-June.
