The Oppo R5 has been outed with a super svelte 4.85mm thick design, making it the world’s thinnest phone.

The first handset to dip under the elusive 5mm barrier, the Oppo R5 has taken the world’s thinnest mantle from the Kazam Tornado 348, a 5.15mm slim handset unveiled just earlier this month.

The paper-thin smartphone has kept its dress size down thanks to a 3D-welded aluminium design.

Despite its streamlined design, the Oppo R5 has not scrimped on premium components. The phone pairs a 5.2-inch, 1080p HD AMOLED display with a 1.5GHz 64-bit Snapdragon 615 processor and an Adreno 405 GPU.

With the phone’s camera unable to slot neatly within the streamlined body, the 13-megapixel, f/2.0 Sony sensor protrudes slightly from the phone’s rear. Around front, a secondary 5-megapixel camera features.

One area where many super slim phones often fall short is battery life. Oppo, however, appears to have tackled these staying power woes head-on.

The R5 runs a 2,000mAh Lithium-Ion battery. What’s more, the manufacturer has claimed the handset will be able to hit an impressive 75 per cent charge based on just 30 minutes connected to the mains.

Sibling to the Oppo N3, the rotating camera incorporating handset, the R5 has yet to be dated for launch.

Despite this lack of a formal arrival time, it has been confirmed the phone will set wannabe owners back $499 (£310) when it hits retailers.
