With the choice of browsers available in the App Store growing every day, Opera is attempting to keep ahead of the game with the release of Mini 6 for iPad and iPhone.
When Opera Mini 5 was launched in April last year for iOS, it was downloaded a million times in just 24 hours and went on to top the charts in every App Store globally. This time round Opera are promising even better data compression to allow you access websites even when faced with a slow network connection. Featuring up to 90 percent compression of data traffic, the speed and cost savings associated with this will appeal to many frustrated by limited data plans or in areas with poor network coverage. Opera Mini 6 will adapt to the high resolution Retina Display on the iPhone 4 and changes the user interface to accommodate the screen size. The same is true for the iPad with Opera Mini 6 browser switching to a more convenient view for tablet handling.
Like the versions of Mini 6 already available for Android, BlackBerry and Symbian devices, the iOS version will finally bring pinch-to-zoom, faster and smoother panning, share buttons, redesigned Opera menus and new skins. Always good for a quote or two, Opera’s CEO Lars Boilesen, compared the feeling of releasing the Opera Mini 6 browser in the App Store to “walking onto the stage and hearing the roar of the crowd. The Opera Mini browser has always kicked up the tempo when downloading pages; now the browsing flows along to a smooth, easy beat.” Rock on, Opera.
