ooVoo BlackBerry 10 app confirmed ahead of BB10 launch

With just 24 hours to go until the eagerly awaited BlackBerry 10 release date, parent company RIM has revealed that an ooVoo BlackBerry 10 app will be made available for the new BB10 platform.

A leading social video chat provider that plays host to a whopping 66 million registered subscribers, ooVoo has confirmed that an ooVoo BlackBerry 10 app is in the works with the Android and iOS rivalling application to offering HD video communications between users.

“ooVoo serves more than one billion minutes of video each month to subscribers,” said Jay Samit, President of ooVoo. “By bringing ooVoo HD video chat to the BlackBerry 10 platform BlackBerry 10 customers will be able to video chat and share videos anytime with the millions of ooVoo’s daily active users on virtually any mobile or desktop platform.”

Set to be integrated within the BlackBerry 10 calling functionality, the upcoming ooVoo BlackBerry 10 app, which is to be made available as a free download, will “be offered for BlackBerry 10 smartphones on the BlackBerry World storefront later this year.”

Allowing up to 12 contact to connect at the same time, and with seamless transitions between voice and ooVoo video calls, the newly confirmed ooVoo BlackBerry 10 app is one of the first high-profile applications to be confirmed for the upcoming platform. RIM previously revealed that it plans to have 70,000 BlackBerry 10 apps available at launch.

“As a leader in communications, we understand the importance of bringing people together in an innovative way that is easy to use,” said Martyn Mallick, Vice President Global Alliances and Business Development at Research In Motion. “ooVoo will be a fantastic choice for BlackBerry 10 customers looking for a multi-user video communications service that can connect them to their contacts on virtually any computer or mobile device, and we are pleased to work with ooVoo to help bring their service to our customers.”
