The ABX-N300 includes AirPlay and wireless (or wired) network audio streaming

Onkyo has announced a new music system that connects to your home network to play music from a PC, or from Apple AirPlay products.

The Onkyo ABX-N300 iOnly Stream also has a physical dock for iPods and iPhones (bear in mind the rumours about the new iPhone 5 connector), and a 3.5mm analogue audio input to hook up any other sound source - this can include a TV’s audio output.

AirPlay enables wireless streaming of audio from compatible iTunes-equipped computers, or the iPod touch, iPhone or iPad.

Alternatively, it will also stream audio from computer hard disks, NAS drives or other media server devices over a Wi-Fi network or via an Ethernet cable.

Its format support includes MP3, AAC and higher quality options such as FLAC, WAV and WMA Lossless.

The Onkyo ABX-N300 also accesses thousands of internet radio stations through the vTuner portal. Unlike some other Onkyo networked audio products, there's no built in Spotify or Last.FM, but you may be able to play these through an Airplay device.

Inside are two full-range bass-reflex speakers incorporating 6cm cones, housed in independent cabinets to reduce unwanted vibrations. Its Active Bass Control system will, according to Onkyo, “compensate for the perceived loss of bass sounds at lower volume”. The power output is 2x 10W.

On the top of the system is an LCD screen along with dust-free touch sensitive buttons. A sliding aluminium cover protects the controls and dock when not in use. The ABX-N300 sits on a matching aluminium foot base, and the whole unit measures 430 x 131 x 148mm.

Onkyo’s ABX-N300 goes on sale in September, priced £300
