The eternally elusive OnePlus One has sold somewhere upwards of half a million devices across the globe.
The firm’s co-founder and director, Carl Pei, revealed the sales stats to Forbes at Dublin’s web summit.
Pei also said he hopes the firm will reach its stretch goal of one million units before 2014 is out.
“It’s going to be hard,” said Pei. “I think it’s possible.”
The OnePlus One is unique for two reasons – it sports an incredibly low price considering its high-spec innards, and it’s (for the most part) only available to purchase via invitation.
The firm manages to keep the price low by restricting profit margins heavily.
“That’s not the way we’re going to make money in the future, it’s just to keep the operation going.”
We spoke to Carl Pei just last month, where he revealed that the OnePlus One was breaking even, while the company as a whole was operating at a loss.
Pei also revealed to TrustedReviews that the OnePlus One was selling north of four figures a day in the UK alone.
Last month OnePlus made pre-orders for the phone available for the very first time, although only during a one-hour window on October 27.
Pei calls the invitation-only model a way of controlling stock levels and making sure demand doesn’t put too much stress on OnePlus supply chains.
The phone currently prices up at £229 for the 64GB handset, with 3GB of RAM, a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, and a 1080p 5.5-inch display on offer.
