OnePlus One invite order system finally given the boot

The OnePlus One invite-only purchase system has finally been knocked on the head, the fledgling smartphone manufacturer has confirmed.

Having attempted to create an air of exclusivity around the device – while closely monitoring stock flow – the OnePlus has exclusively been available through an invite-only platform.

Now, however, the handset is available to the masses ahead of the follow-on OnePlus Two’s release later in the year.

“Today we are bidding farewell to one of the most talked about aspects of OnePlus: using invites to buy the OnePlus One,” an official company statement announced.

“From here on our, the One and Bamboo StyleSwap covers will be available on OnePlus.net without invites. All day, ever day.”

Back in February OnePlus started to filter its flagship phone out to the masses, doing away with the invite initiative each and every Tuesday.

The OnePlus One, which is available in both black and white colour schemes, is available from £229 SIM-free.

When the phone first launched last June the handset offered a flurry of high-end features at a wallet-friendly price tag.

Running a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor alongside a 5.5-inch 1080p Full HD display the phone’s specs sheet has faded slightly over the past 12 months but remains a strong, affordable proposition.

Featuring 3GB of RAM, the One pairs a 13-megapixel primary camera with a secondary, 5-megapixel selfie shooter up front.

A 3100mAh battery keeps things chugging along while 4G connectivity, an 8.9mm form and dual speakers tick the remaining check boxes.
