OnePlus One Cyanogen OS 12 update halted while ‘OK OnePlus’ feature added

Cyanogen OS 12 has been rolling out to OnePlus One handsets over the past week, but it’s been paused while the company adds a missing feature.

The update to the original CyanogenMod 11S OS that shipped with the OnePlus One had been long overdue, so the news that the update process has been halted – albeit temporarily – will come as some frustration to many OnePlus One owners.

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei tweeted the reason for this delay: “OTA rollout was paused due to new “OK OnePlus” feature being added. Should resume mid week.”

Interestingly, that tweet has since been deleted.

OnePlus originally intended to launch the OK OnePlus voice activation feature last year, soon after the OnePlus One itself launched. However, Qualcomm rejected the initial recording work the company submitted, and the feature was pushed back.

Few anticipated that the delay would last approaching a year, but don’t forget that OnePlus is effectively a startup. The feature now appears to be ready for rollout.

A OnePlus forum member has elaborated on the delay a little, stating that “This OTA has been suspended, while Cyanogen adds a missing feature and likely irons out a few bugs/quirks.”

They added that anyone who has been lucky enough to get the original update already will also receive the new over the air update when it’s ready.

It seems as if all those new OnePlus One owners capitalising on the abolition of that pesky invite system will have a new voice activation feature to play with soon.
