OnePlus DR-1 pocket-sized drone confirmed and detailed

After last week’s hints, OnePlus has confirmed that it will be entering the drone market with the OnePlus DR-1.

Speaking in a Reddit AMA last week, OnePlus strongly suggested that the “game changer” product it had been hinting at would actually be a drone. Few saw that coming.

Now the company has confirmed this on the official OnePlus website.

“Aerial drones are the next big thing in consumer technology, and at OnePlus, we pride ourselves on fighting to stay ahead of the technological curve,” says the website. “We’re proud to say that we’ve innovated a whole new way of thinking about drones.”

The OnePlus DR-1 (get it?) will be a tiny remote control drone. It won’t have a camera, as “cameras add weight.” Rather, OnePlus has come up with a design that has been “streamlined for speed, control, and precision.”

That means an aerodynamic unibody, four flexible and independent blades, and a six-axis gyroscopic stabilisation system. Meanwhile QuickCharge technology will provide a full charge in less than 20 minutes, with a flight time of five to eight minutes.

The controller, meanwhile, is a dual-stick affair that apparently “adapts to your skill level and mood,” and enables ambitious flip stunts with a flick of your thumb.

The video below shows just how diddy the OnePlus DR-1 is. With a wingspan of just 70mm, its fits into the palm of your hand.

There’ll be a limited quantity of DR-1 drones to buy in April, apparently, and it’ll cost just £15.99.
