Despite its roots as a Shenzen start-up, OnePlus is quickly becoming a global force to be reckoned with.

That international growth is likely to be boosted by the company’s new manufacturing operations outside of its Chinese home turf.

Today, Pete Lau, the CEO of OnePlus, announced that the firm plans to start producing devices in India.

It’s all thanks to a partnership with manufacturing giant Foxconn, best known for its production of Apple devices in China.

“Producing smartphones in India is one of the most important decisions that we have made so far at OnePlus, and we are thankful to the government of Andhra Pradesh and Foxconn for helping us make this happen,” said Lau.

He added: “India being one of our biggest markets worldwide, we are committed to a long term sustainable growth path.”

It’s not just a gesture of good will, mind; India is a huge market for OnePlus, and basing manufacturing operations there will be a serious boon to the company’s earnings potential.

“Local production will not only make our operations more efficient in terms of cost and working capital requirements but also help us in making our products available for sale much faster than ever before,” explained Vikas Agarwal, OnePlus’ GM for India.

OnePlus is expected to launch a budget smartphone later this quarter, although pricing, naming, and specs are all yet to be confirmed.
