We may have just learned the specs of the forthcoming OnePlus 3 – and it could be a beast.
OnePlus has taken the Android world by storm since it launched the OnePlus One in 2014. While its phones are tough to come by, and thus don’t sell in anything like the numbers of a Samsung or LG flagship, they have a faithful following among Android enthusiasts.
That’s largely because they’re very well built and very well specced for a very low price, and their software is simultaneously unfussy and highly customisable.
Which explains why there’s considerable excitement surrounding the forthcoming OnePlus 3. Now German website Winfuture has spotted what could be specification info for the new phone.
Fresh specs taken from the popular Geekbench benchmarking tool point to a bit of a beast. Besides packing a Snapdragon 820 CPU, which we’ve already seen performing well in the HTC 10 and LG G5, the OnePlus 3 could come with as much as 6GB of RAM.
That’s 50 percent more RAM than you’ll find in the latest Android flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S7, the HTC 10, and the LG G5.
Another benchmark listing seems to contradict this point, suggesting that OnePlus 3 could actually have 4GB of RAM like the rest. However, the use of two slightly different code names – Rain A3000 and Rain Rain A3000 – could mean that there will be two models to choose from.

This is far from improbable, as last year’s OnePlus 2 also came in two variants. Initially, at least, there was a 16GB model with 3GB of RAM and a 64GB model with 4GB of RAM.
Those hoping for a bump up to a QHD resolution look set to be disappointed, as the specs suggest a 5-inch 1080p display. There’ll be a 16-megapixel camera and 64GB of storage, as well as – praise be – NFC for mobile payments.
