OnePlus 2 will not launch tomorrow, company confirms

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has revealed that the eagerly awaited OnePlus 2 will not be formally unveiled at tomorrow’s ‘Time for Change’ event.

Having recently alerted media to a June 1 product event, OnePlus has courted much speculation that its next Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6 rival was just days from entering the realms of reality.

Now, however, Pei – speaking with AusDroid – has quashed the OnePlus 2-themed expectation, confirming the OnePlus One follow-on would not land until later in the year.

So, if not this week, when exactly can we expect the OnePlus 2 to land? Well, according to Pei, the handset will be launched in “Q3 2015”.

Despite Q3 covering the period from July 1 to September 30, the OnePlus co-founder failed to further narrow down the handset’s launch window.

One thing Pei did reveal about the company’s next phone, however, was its official name.

Moving to a new digit-based naming convention, the ‘One’ replacement will be formally known as the OnePlus 2 – not the OnePlus Two.

With no new flagship phone being inbound, reports have claimed tomorrow’s event will instead see a price cut introduced to the OnePlus One.

It has been suggested that $50 will be skimmed from the asking price of both the 16GB and 32GB handsets.
