OnePlus 2 fingerprint sensor will be faster than Touch ID

OnePlus has confirmed that the forthcoming OnePlus 2 will feature a fingerprint scanner, and has revealed that it will be even faster than Apple's Touch ID.

There had been a great deal of speculation that the OnePlus 2 would have a fingerprint scanner when it's finally launched on July 27.

Now OnePlus has confirmed that fact over on an official forum post. Indeed, it turns out the component will be "one of the latest and most advanced fingerprint sensors out there."

OnePlus points out that in the past, fingerprint sensors tended to be tacked on as a 'me too' feature and proved to be inaccurate and slow. That's true, but only if we're talking about Android phones.

When Apple first came up with Touch ID on the iPhone 5S, it seriously threw the Android crowd off for a while. Because Apple had slyly bought up the best touch sensor company in the field ahead of the iPhone 5S's release, Android devices released in its wake were forced to use markedly inferior technology.

It's only really with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6 that we have seen evidence that the competition has finally caught up with Apple's Touch ID solution.

The OnePlus 2 will continue that competitive approach with its own sensor. "It's refined and lightning quick, unlocking your device faster than TouchID," reads the post.

It will take you to your home screen with "one quick tap," and provides the ability to store five fingerprint profiles.

Of course, the iPhone 6 has now been on the market for nine months, so Apple will no doubt have its own improved Touch ID system just around the corner in the iPhone 6S.
