Olympus XZ-10 compact camera revealed

Olympus has revealed the Olympus XZ-10, a brand new premium compact camera.

Olympus‘s new point and shoot packs in many of the features found in the Olympus XZ-2 – a high-end compact camera that’s actually around 40 per cent larger than the Olympus XZ-10.

Among the new device’s key features are an impressively fast lens and a couple of manual controls that you only really see on high-end compacts.

Read on to see what the Olympus XZ-10 has going for it.

Olympus XZ-10 Specs
As we’ve mentioned, the Olympus XZ-10 is all about that lens. It’s an f/1.8 model with 5x optical zoom and a wide angle 26mm capacity. What’s more, it can retain an impressive f/2.7 when fully zoomed in.

The Olympus XZ-10 comes with a 12-megapixel 1/2.3-inch image sensor, which is far from the largest to be found in a high-end point and shoot – that honour still belongs to the Sony RX100 and its 1-inch sensor. It’s capable of ISO 6400.

One trick that the Olympus XZ-10 borrows from the likes of the Sony RX100 and the Canon S100 is its manual control ring. Placed at the base of the lens, it allows you to set it to key settings such as aperture or shutter speed. There’s also a function button for accessing other common settings.

Around back we have a 3-inch LCD touchscreen, which can be used to set the focus point.

The XZ-10 is also capable of shooting HD video at 120fps.

There’s no Wi-Fi present here, but the Olympus XZ-10 does work with Toshiba’s FlashAir Wireless LAN cards, so you can transfer pictures directly to your smartphone or tablet.

Olympus XZ-10 Pricing and Availability
The Olympus XZ-10 will launch in March, and will cost £349. It’ll be available in black, brown, or white.

What do you think of the Olympus XZ-10? Is it enough to tempt you away from the esteemed Canon S110 or even the pricier Sony RX100? Let us know through the TrustedReviews Twitter and Facebook feeds, or take to the comments box below.
