Olympus has announced a new addition to its rugged camera range, the Olympus Tough TG-4.

The Tough TG-4 is a suitably robust point and shoot camera with a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS image sensor and a 25-100mm lens with a maximum f/2.0 aperture.

Olympus claims that this lens allows the Tough TG-4 to "capture spectacular, colourful, low-noise shots in light-starved environments where fast shutter speeds and low ISO settings are indispensable."

As befits its name and class, the Olympus Tough TG-4 can take photos underwater (up to 15 metres), and there's an Underwater HDR mode and an in-built manometer to help with such aquatic snaps.

It's not all about underwater photography, however. The Tough TG-4 is also shock proof to 2.1 metres, crush proof to 100kg, and freeze proof to minus 10 degrees celsius.

GPS, e.Compass and OI.Track connectivity will help with location data in the kind of extreme, remote environments the TG-4 is clearly intended for. There's also built-in WiFi and OI.Share, and RAW shooting is also supported.

Around back you get a 3-inch 460k dot LCD display, and on top there's a glove-friendly mode dial.

The Olympus Tough TG-4 will be available from May 2015 for €399 (£289), and you'll be able to pick it up in black or red.
