Olympus Stylus SH-2 retro point and shoot announced

Olympus has announced the Stylus SH-2, stylishly retro point and shoot camera with some high grade features.

Last year’s Olympus Stylus SH-1 presented a slick point and shoot camera with an advanced optical image stabilisation (OIS). That camera’s successor continues the theme.

Olympus is really playing up the Stylus SH-2’s good looks this time, as well as its compactness, in a bid to convince smartphone photographers to pop a dedicated camera in their bag or pocket. Specifically this one.

It talks of the camera’s classic style, and a top panel and main controls that are formed of an aluminium alloy. The company also points to the SH-2’s smartphone-beating image quality and performance.

The Stylus SH-2 once again has 5-axis image stabilisation (suitable for stills and videos), as well as a 24x wide-angle optical zoom lens and a 16-megapixel  BSI CMOS 1/2.3-inch image sensor. It also features RAW support.

Around back there’s a 3-inch 460k dot touch-enabled LCD display, and the Stylus SH-2 also boasts in-built Wi-Fi. The latter enables the camera to be paired up with an iOS or Android phone for remote usage, not to mention wireless image transfers and instant sharing.

When it comes to video, the Stylus SH-2 can record Full HD 1080p at 60 fps. It also has 120fps and 240fps slo-mo modes for those action shots, while the fittingly named Time Lapse Movie mode will compress five hours of recording into a 20 second time lapse movie.

The Olympus Stylus SH-2 will be available in mid-March for €299 (around £211).
