The Olympus E-PL6 is coming to the UK, having previously only been confirmed for a launch in Japan.

Olympus makes some of the best Micro Four Thirds cameras, but until now we didn’t know whether its E-PL6 would come to the UK.

It was announced back in May 2013, but we’ve had to make do with the older E-PL5 model, with the newer Olympus E-PL6 only available on import.

What’s the difference? The two cameras are very similar, which is probably why it has taken this long for Olympus to release it over here.

The only significant hardware change is that the Olympus E-PL6 has a electronic level that lets you judge whether your camera is straight or not - without relying entirely on your eyes.

If you already own an Olympus E-PL5 it is - obviously - not worth upgrading.

However, with much of the same hardware as the E-PL5, it’s worth investigating if you're new to CSCs. And could mean we see some bargain-priced E-PL5s in the coming months.

Both cameras have a 16.1-megapixel sensor and an extended ISO range that goes up to 25,600. They are also among the smaller CSC cameras, thanks to their use of Micro Four Thirds, rather than larger APS-C, sensors.

Other top current Micro Four Thirds cameras include the Panasonic GX7 and the very petite, entry-level Olympus E-PM2. However, the E-PL6’s closest rival is the Panasonic GF6, a relatively affordable and high-performing CSC in its own right.

Olympus says the E-PL6 will go on sale in the UK within the next few weeks bundled with the standard 14-42mm kit lens for around £429.99.
