Details of Olympus’ new micro four thirds camera have been leaked by Amazon ahead of a launch later this week.
Olympus is set to update its OM line of cameras with a digital version, in the shape of the OD-M E-M5 which will feature a micro four thirds sensor. In the images below, grabbed from the Japanese version of Amazon by the ever-vigilant 4/3 Rumours website, we see the E-M5 with a battery grip attached.
However, while the camera may seem fairly large compared to other micro four thirds cameras in these images, another picture (below), leaked on a Polish forum, shows someone holding the E-M5 and gives a better perspective of just how big (or not) it is. However the camera purporting to be the E-M5 is blurred out so this has to be taken with a pinch of salt.
Amazon also confirmed the camera would feature a 16 megapixel MOS sensor, have a 17.3 x 13mm (3in) tiltable screen on the rear and will support SD cards (SHDC/SHXC/UHS-1) along with Eye-Fi support. 4/3 Rumours believe the camera will have the fastest auto focus of all digital interchangeable cameras currently on the market, even out performing the Nikon D4.
It will shoot 4fps, or 9fps without the auto focus, will feature a new five-axis image stabilisation, will feature the powerful Truepic VI engine and have an ISO range from 200 up to 25,600. The camera will measure 122 x 89 x 43mm and weigh 369g according to 4/3 Rumours.
Pricing for the new Olympus camera is set to be around €1,100 or $1,200, putting it up against the likes of the Fujifilm X-Pro 1.
However these are not the only images which have appeared online of the new camera. An image (above) with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 and a range of lenses has also shown up, along with the first images of new 75mm f/1.8 and 60mm f/2.8 macro lenses.
The Olympus OM-D E-M5 will be launched later this week and we will be there to find out all the details and bring you a hands-on preview of the new camera. But for now, let us know in the comments below what you think of the look of the new micro four thirds camera from Olympus.
