Oculus VR is promising a ‘special announcement’ during The Game Awards this week, leading to speculation the firm might finally be ready to announce the price and release date for the Oculus Rift headset.
The Facebook-owned company plans to deliver the news via Oculus founder Palmer Luckey, during the streamed event on Thursday, as per by host Geoff Keighley (via VentureBeat).

If the company is not yet ready to commit beyond the vague “Q1 2016” release window or reveal the launch price, then it’s difficult to know what Luckey has up his sleeve.
Perhaps we’ll hear news about launch titles or services, but the only announcement most would consider ‘special’ would be a reveal of that all important release date.

Should Oculus decide to do so, it’ll be the first of the so-called ‘big three’ VR headsets to confirm the official on-sale details.
Both HTC and Sony HTC have only committed to tentative early/mid 2016 windows for their respective Vive and PlayStation VR headsets.
In the video trailer posted to YouTube, the company promised world premieres of 2016 content as well as “other surprises.”
The video description read: “The Game Awards 2015 will feature awards, world premieres of Far Cry Primal, Quantum Break, Mortal Kombat, a special announcement from Oculus plus musical performances from the CHVRCHES, deadmau5 and other surprises.”
