Oculus Rift price will be more than $350, says Palmer Luckey
The Oculus Rift price will be more than $350, according to OculusVR founder Palmer Luckey.
With the consumer release windows for the PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive all getting closer and closer, talk has turned to pricing for all three VR headsets.
Sony has already said its PlayStation VR will retail for the same price as a new console. There’s no word on an estimated price of the HTC Vive though.
But, according to Luckey, you’re looking a price beyond $350 (£235) for the Oculus Rift.
He explained to Road to VR that while the price will be “roughly in that [$350] ballpark, it’s going to cost more than that”

However, Luckey has stressed that the price isn’t down to Oculus feeling greedy, it’s about getting consumers the best virtual reality experience it can offer.
“It’s not a matter of ‘oh we’re selling more, we can make more money!’, it’s just the reality that when you make this thing you have to decide what tradeoffs you’re going to make; are you going to optimise for absolute lowest price possible, even if it’s going to be a lower quality experience?” said Luckey.
“We need to put a stake in the ground and say: this is the best possible experience that we are able to make. No compromises were made in terms of quality. Get the cost down as much as you can on that experience, but make it so that the Rift is something that everybody wants to use.”
