Oculus Ready PC program will offer certified rigs for the Rift

At its Connect 2 developer conference on Thursday, Oculus announced a new Oculus Ready PC program, which will offer branded rigs that are compatible with the Rift headset.

The consumer release of the Oculus Rift in 2016 will be accompanied by a host of Oculus-branded PCs made by Asus, Alienware and Dell.

The machines will feature Nvidia graphics and Intel processors powerful enough to at least meet the minimum tech requirements to power the Oculus Rift. Each machine will also offer at least 8GB of RAM, as specified by Oculus.

In more good news for consumers, Oculus announced that each of the manufacturers will offer an option for less than $1,000 (about £630), although that obviously won’t include a Oculus Rift itself.

Oculus is yet to announce a price or official release date, but has committed to a Q1 2016 time frame.

When Oculus announced the minimum system requirements earlier this year, it became clear the Rift headset wouldn’t be a cheap date.

The high system requirements encouraged many more gamers to look into building their own rig. These PCs may somewhat easy the burden of cost for those seeking a pre-built solution.
