The Nvidia Shield TV set-top box has been recalled in the US over hard drive issues.
Nvidia has announced a recall on its Shield Android TV console after discovering some units have been plagued by hard drive issues.
The recall states that the problem affects a "small number of Shield Pro units" may worsen over time. The best way to remedy the issue is to replace the affected units.
"Less than 1 per cent of Shield Pro units have been diagnosed as having a hard drive issue that can worsen over time," said Nvidia. "A symptom of this issue is the device's failure to properly update during a System Upgrade (fastboot menu is shown)."
It only affects the 500GB version, called the Nvidia Shield Pro, which is the more expensive option above the 16GB varient.
The Shield Pro costs $300, but it seems some are suffering from this hard drive issue.
You can find out whether your Nvidia Shield Pro console has a faulty hard drive by checking the following:
- Is the fastboot screen showing up after the version 1.4 upgrade? If it is, you should get your unit repaced, even if the device starts up after a system reboot
- Affected products will show sever/persistent pixelation in all tiles on the top row of the Android TV home screen
Anyone who is experiencing these issues should contact Nvidia to get a replacement.
The company wil get a new unit shipped out to you as soon your RMA is accepted.
Nvidia will even send replacements outside of the US, as long as it has certifications to ship to your specific country.
