Go 7950 GTX set to rock our benchmarks, despite being curiously spec-less.
The mobile graphics war continues to sway between Canada and the US, but this week it is the Yanks who have grasped the upper hand.
nVidia has busted out the GeForce Go 7950 GTX which it claims (and consequently probably is) the fastest mobile graphics card in the world. The downside is the company has mysteriously decided to keep all specifications under its hat for the time being which compares to me declaring I know who shot JFK then replying “But I’m not telling ya” (I do, by the way, it was Spode).
Instead what we got was a collection vagaries such as:
*Rapid performance driver updates direct from NVIDIA that offer superior performance, stability and compatibility for the latest 3D games and applications.
*GPU acceleration of HD video formats like H.264 through NVIDIA PureVideo™ technology – the combination of GPU hardware and software delivers a high-definition home theatre video experience to the PC.
*NVIDIA PowerMizer® technology, with advanced power management features that enable the dramatic performance enhancements in the same power budget as the previous generation of NVIDIA mobile GPUs.
*A high performance 3D architecture built for Microsoft Windows Vista™— the industry’s first operating system to require a dedicated GPU to realise its full potential.
Sheesh… the things we have to put up with. All we do know in fact is that the Go 7950 GTX will be DirectX 9.0 and Shader Model 3.0 compatible (well, ”duh”), have GPU acceleration of H.264 and a bunch of other generalities that are too embarrassingly obvious to mention.
nVidia did let it slip that Dell will be one of the first companies to ship the Go 7950 GTX, again not another terrific surprise, and consequently you won’t get the longest of odds on hardcore builders like Voodoo, Rock, Alienware and Evesham being right beside them.
Whatever the missing specs on the Go 7950 GTX I’m confident that JFK’s assassin will soon be putting it through its paces in the TR labs. With a carefully aimed rifle at its chipset should it fail to deliver…
