Nvidia has announced the updated Nvidia GeForce 800M series laptop graphics cards, claiming 30 to 60 per cent performance increases across the range and improved battery life.
Nvidia is also claiming some serious advances in battery life and efficiency, adding that it wants to change way performance on laptops is defined.
“This year, we are changing the way we define progress for gaming notebooks,” said Mark Aevermann, Nvidia Product Manager.
The unique features include the new Nvidia Battery Boost mode, which is capable of automatically offering up to twice the gaming battery life than previous GPU iterations.
It does this by guaranteeing you a user defined frame rate, rather than pushing all your laptop’s components to their maximum. For example, it will limit performance to around 30fps if on battery rather 60fps or more, or limit it to a frame rate you’re comfortable with as defined by you.
Nvidia has also added GeForce ShadowPlay to its notebook GPU, which lets you capture in-game footage and then broadcast it to Twitch.tv without any performance impact.
It can do this via three separate modes – Shadow Mode, Manual Mode and Shadow and Manual combined.
Compatibility for Wi-Fi PC game streaming to devices like the Nvidia Shield will be added in the coming months.
“GeForce 800M are even more power efficient than our previous generation of notebook GPUs by a good margin. We are helping our partners pack more and more power into thinner and thinner notebooks,” added Aevermann. “GeForce 800M Series GPUs have enough performance and power efficiency to enable leaner, lighter, faster gaming notebook chassis.”
