The Nvidia Drive CX digital car cockpit has been announced as one of Nvidia’s attempt to take over the vehicular future.
At the Nvidia CES 2015 press conference, the company announced Drive CX as a digital cockpit for cars in the future.
Drive CX is based on the Nvidia’s new Tegra X1 processor, also announced at CES 2015.
The digital cockput will include an advanced visual computing architecture capable of powering 16.6 megapixels for cars with multiple screens.
Based on that, the Drive CX is actually capable of powering screens even more pixel dense than the iMac 5K Retina Display with their 15 million pixels.
“We believe the future car will pack an enormous amount of compute capability,” said Nvidia at the CES press conference.
Nvidia believes future car will have a huge number of displays in them, even down to your rear view mirror.
“We imagine these displays will replace many of the current capabilities of your car. Your mirror could become a smart display the pillars around your car could become screens.”
Aside from the displays, Nvidia Drive CX also powers features like speech recognition and image recognition.

Alongside Drive CX, Nvidia also revealed how the new platforms will introduce new driver assist tools.
The car of the future as imagined by Nvidia is a “software-defined car”, where all the cameras around the cars will be connected to a single platform.
That’s where Nvidia Drive PX comes in. It features two X1 processors that can process camera inputs from a maximum 12 cameras.
It uses computer-vision technology based on deep neural networking techniques to recognise objects around the cars, including pedestrians.
The Drive PX equipped car also has features like Surround-Vision and Auto-Valet.
