Nokia N1 release date pegged for January 7, reports say

The release date for Nokia’s upcoming N1 tablet has been tipped for January 7.

The company announced the new slate just last month, but has kept quiet on launch details since.

According to Sina.com, the Nokia N1 will land in China first, although it could see a similar release date in other regions – we just don’t know yet.

As far as what we do know, we’re looking at a 7.9-inch Android (5.0 Lollipop) tablet with a 2048 x 1536 resolution and Gorilla Glass 3 display protection.

Packed inside is a quad-core Intel Z3580 processor clocking in at 2.3GHz, with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a 5300mAh battery in tow.

There’s also an 8-megapixel rear-facing snapper, with a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter to boot.

It’s also expected to land for around $250, which translates to roughly £160 sterling.

As part of Nokia’s deal with Microsoft, the firm isn’t allowed to manufacture its own mobile devices until 2016.

It’s likely then that Nokia has snubbed its own manufacturing facilities and outsourced the N1’s production to an Asian manufacturer to get back in the mobile game.

Microsoft now owns the previously Nokia-held Lumia chain of phones, which it has since rebranded ‘Microsoft Lumia’.

The Nokia N1 is the Finnish firm’s first foray into mobile devices since it cut all ties with Microsoft earlier this year.
